As many expectant parents do, we waited until the end of the first trimester before making the obligatory Facebook announcement, and it’s no secret that we’re having a boy. One thing we’re not going to do is reveal our chosen name until after he’s born. We probably won’t be completely certain until we see him, anyway.
We’re still a bit in denial – can we just put it off until next year? – and the mention of name choice has been enough to send my brain into “la la” mode. Thankfully, the chance discovery of this rather informative “Australian Baby Name Survey 2016” forced the issue a little.
Even if you’re not in the market for a baby name, it’s an interesting read.
Dadlife is Australia’s newest “dad blog”.
So what’s this all about? My name is Martin, I live in Perth and I’m on the wrong side of 40. Local foodies may know me from my food blog Morsels. In early 2016 I decided it was time for a career change, and left 22 years in IT behind to focus on becoming a freelance food writer. This move was also part of a longer-term strategy to establish myself as being able to work from home if we had a child. Now have a son due mid-December 2017.
At the time I write this we’re just over half way, and everything is going to plan so far. Reality hasn’t quite set in yet, but it’s not far away.
I’ve had children in my life before, but this is the first of my own (and my first experience with a baby) so it’s going to be an interesting journey. I’m hoping to make this blog informative and useful, not just a diary of my daily trials and tribulations. I’m already Dad to three cats, so expect to see them too.
Welcome to Dadlife.
